Who are we? 

Ngutana-Lui is Brisbane Catholic Education’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Studies Centre and provides opportunities for students and all visitors, to increase their awareness, appreciation and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures and spiritualities. 

The aim of the Centre is to promote reconciliation through education by providing a wide range of cultural learning opportunities for all age groups. For educational environments, Ngutana-Lui services are intended to supplement on-going cultural learning programs and curriculum delivery in schools and colleges.  

 

 What is available? 

For Schools: The Cultural Visitation Program delivers comprehensive, high quality experiences, which focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures and spiritualities. The program can be delivered several ways:  

  • On-site at Ngutana-Lui (up to 120 students per day) 
  • At your School or College (maximum of between 150 and 200 students per day) 
  • ​​​​​​​Special Presentation (an hour session delivered at your school or learning centre) 
  • ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Bespoke Programs (particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander student groups). Please contact directly to discuss. 

For Other Organisations: Cultural Awareness Days are available for staff to learn more about the world’s oldest surviving Cultures from Ngutana-Lui’s Cultural Tutors. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​ Topics include (but are not limited to): 

  • Truth Telling 
  • The Dreaming 
  • Connection to Country 
  • Aboriginal Spirituality and Torres Strait Islander Spirituality 
  • Family Kinships 
  • Histories and Policies Impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples 
  • Intergenerational Trauma 

School Holiday Periods: School holiday periods are a perfect opportunity for groups other than schools to access Ngutana-Lui. Please contact us to discuss options for your visit.  

 

What is your availability? 

  • Please note, bookings are essential. We are not open to the public. 
  • On-site at Ngutana-Lui - Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and alternate Fridays 
  • At your school, college or learning centre – Tuesdays only 
  • Special Presentations – any day depending upon availability  
  • Bespoke Programs – any day depending upon availability 

 

What is the cost? 

  • For Brisbane Catholic Education schools and offices, there is no charge. 
  • For State and Independent schools, and other groups, prices will vary depending on group size and number of sessions required. Please make contact with us for a quote.
